The Norton Museum of Art was founded in 1941 by Ralph Hubbard Norton (1875-1953) and his wife, Elizabeth Calhoun Norton (1881-1947). With the addition of a new 42,500-foot wing, named the Gail and Melvin Nessel Wing in honor of major donors, the Norton is the largest museum in the state devoted entirely to art.
