CRITICS REVIEWS

Cabo Flats Cantina & Tequila Bar in Palm Beach Gardens is spacious, but it was still crowded on a recent Friday night when the bar was hopping.

Cabo Flats Cantina & Tequila Bar does California Mex in all its grand, funky glory. From the chandeliers made of Mexican punched-tin star lanterns to the wild, lime-frame garage doors, this new spot at Downtown at the Gardens is hot in a big way. (Full review)

Cabo Flats lost our business FOREVER.

The chips are no longer free with the meal. You now have to pay for the chips and salsa they bring to the table. We were OK with that, but then it got way worse. It is obvious they are trying to increase profits by cutting back on the food quality. We ordered a steak burrito and a steak fajita. My husband even cut open his burrito to try to find any steak. We paid for a steak burrito and got a burrito stuffed with white rice and beans. I think we found two little slivers of meat. My steak fajita was just as pathetic. I found one tiny slice of red pepper, a couple tiny bits of green pepper, a little bit of steak and TONS of onions. I basically had an onion fajita. For Mexican food this place is a bit pricey, so I expect better quality. It was so intentional what they were doing we were really disgusted. There are too many places to eat to give a place that is not even trying to do a good job my business. We ate here a couple times before and liked it, but it has really went downhill. The margaritas are not that good either. I don't complain at restaurants, because I don't want my food messed with. I just don't go back. We paid about $35 for chips, a plate of onions, and a rice burrito.

Sketchy Service

I've been to Cabo 3 or 4 times, but this was my first time ordering food. I typically sit at the bar just because it's usually faster at most places. However on this day I was not so lucky. Everytime I needed to order something and even get the check I had to flag down 1 of 3 bartenders that were right in front of me.

It was very odd, it was like they were preoccupied with each other. I'd been there before and have had no problem. Perhaps it was just their Sunday staff. At any rate, I'll be hesitant to go back again.

I will say the food was pretty good, but that did not redeem the service.

Delicious veggie burrito; sorta confusing atmosphere

Agree somewhat with freakerdude that the bar area can overshadow the restaurant. I was there on a recent Saturday evening, before dark, and both bar and restaurant were pretty busy. There were families dining inside, and the DJ did a kids hula hoop contest for free fried ice cream. Which was cute, but it's a little odd that there's a DJ in a restaurant when it's not a club...eh?

At any rate, appreciated the free tequila shots (apparently it's a "thing" where a waitress gets up on the bar and pours it right into your mouth). And I forget what it was called -- I think the Sublime burrito -- but it was absolutely delicious, filled with red rice, spinach and other veggies.

Fried ice cream was not worth it; go to Sloan's for regular ice cream instead!

more of a bar scene

The place is nicely decorated inside and they kept the blue tiled waterfall wall from Rosa's. Lunch time was dead so I guess they pay their bills with the night crowd. Chicken mole was just meh even though the mole sauce was good. Chicken was dry, as if it was from last night's leftover service. Charro beans and spicey rice were real good, served in a fancy angled bowl.

On weekend nights, this place packs them in since they draw a huge drinking crowd. They have ladies night on Thursday and a DJ on Friday nights. Service today was not good even though there couldn't have been but 20 customers max in a place that can handle 5 times that amount. This was my first visit and I would not go for the mole again. The place has more of a nightclub feel to it than a resto.
