It was a fortunate case of mistaken identity. I meant to check out one Greek restaurant in Boynton Beach, but landed at another a few miles south, thanks to a hasty Google search for the address.

Thank you, hasty Google search, for directing me to this random Publix plaza, to this narrow storefront space, to this casual, neighborhood gem that is Chris’ Taverna.

Customers at Chris’ Taverna in Lake Worth enjoy a fairly loud, fun, communal atmosphere.

Three frequent lunch companions and i set out in serach of food one day, not entirely knowing where we'd end up. We came across Chris's Taverna in the Pinewood Square shopping center in suburban Lantana and decided to give it a try.

Inside, we found a welcoming atmosphere amid the Greek-themed decorations. WE chose a table near the window and pondered our good fortune.

We also ordered a Greek salad with grilled chicken ($7.95), spanikopitas, or spinach pie ($7.95) and a bacon cheeseburger ($5.45)

The Greek salad was a work of epic proportions. Several gigantic strips of grilled chicken topped a huge plate of mixed greens, olives, veggies and (my favorite) feta cheese. I ate and ate but barely made a dent in it.

The spanikopita, with its layers upon layers of think flaky dough,

Perfection a la Greek!

In order to properly appreciate Greek culture one does not need read Aeschylus or teach classes on the Socratic method - all you need to do is have a meal at Chris's Taverna!

The service was outstanding, the food was vibrant and flavorful, and the Greek music and pictures invited diners to relax and enjoy a transformational Greek experience. Unfortunately, I could only eat the moussaka but everything on the menu is calling me (much like a Siren would) for a return engagement!
